Dahl Baht
“NEPALESE DAHL BAAT (RICE WITH LENTILS)”

PREP 20 - 30 minutes
SERVINGS 4 

INGREDIENTS:
1 cup of red lentils
2 cups of water
1 stock cube
1 clove of garlic
some black pepper
½ teaspoon turmeric
3 tablespoons oil
1 teaspoon cumin seed
half an onion, chopped
1 clove of garlic, chopped
a bunch of fresh cilantro


DIRECTIONS:
Cook the lentils until tender.
Add the stock cube, turmeric, and a little ground black pepper.
Stir well and leave to simmer for a while.
Turn off the heat and let it rest with the lid on the pan.
Heat the oil in a small pan and fry the cumin seeds until brown.
Then add the chopped onion and garlic and fry for a while. Stir in some tomato or green peppers for adding some color to your dish.
Blend this mixture into the dahl.
Serve the Dahl Baat with rice and for example tarkari (vegetables) and achar (a hot sauce), and sprinkle with chopped fresh cilantro.
